In Loving Memory of Gunny Cameron
December 28, 2009 – July 30, 2025
Forever Momma’s Boy, Always Her Master Gun
Born in Sumter, South Carolina, on December 28, 2009, Gunny Cameron was not just a dog—he was a miracle, a guardian, and a soul-bound companion to his mom, Kristy. From the moment she found him abandoned near a landfill at just four weeks old, Kristy knew their bond was something extraordinary. She not only nursed him back to health—she gave him a purpose, and in return, he gave her everything.
Gunny—affectionately known as Momma’s Boy, Master Gun, or Gunnery Sergeant—was a true soldier of love and loyalty. He was Kristy’s shadow, her ride-or-die, her heart dog in every sense of the word. Trained to hog hunt and even fluent in sign language, Gunny was as smart as he was devoted, always eager to serve and protect the ones he loved most.
Life on the family’s horse ranch in Sumter was Gunny’s paradise. He was surrounded by an incredible circle of loved ones: his human siblings Kayla, Nathan, and Cole; his dog companions Rexxy (his son), Stormy, and Askum; cat sibling Mickey; and his cherished horse siblings Dancer, Lark, Butterfly, Little Foot, and Pretty Boy. He now joins his beloved late dog sister Cherry and horse siblings Riley and Fancy across the rainbow bridge.
Gunny’s favorite things were simple but meaningful: doggy hunting toys, PB&J sandwiches, peanut butter bones, and ice cream. His favorite place was always right beside his mom, whether that meant riding in the truck, lying in bed, or simply following her from room to room. If he couldn’t be next to her, his world didn’t feel right—and Kristy felt the same.
Three years ago, when Kristy was diagnosed with aggressive stage 4 cancer, Gunny’s love took on a whole new strength. Though his body was aging, his heart never wavered. He stood by her without fail through every treatment, every difficult night, every small victory. When the cancer returned, so did his steadfast devotion. He never left her side—because Gunny knew. He was living for her.
On the evening of July 30, 2025, at the age of 15, Gunny’s body grew tired. Surrounded by his mom and human siblings, he took his final breath in the arms of the one who saved him so many years ago. Kristy whispered words of love and gratitude as he passed, reminding him that he would always be her best friend, her hero, and the greatest gift she had ever been given.
Gunny leaves behind a family forever changed by his love. He was more than a dog—he was a protector, a healer, a reason to keep going. His pawprints are etched in the hearts of all who knew him, and his legacy of devotion will live on in every life he touched.
Rest easy, Master Gun. You’ve completed your mission.
We love you forever.
