In Loving Memory of Baxter James
July 12, 2012 – January 10, 2026
Baxter James was born on July 12, 2012, and at just three months old, he chose his Mommy and Daddy, Chuck and Sharie James, as his forever family. He came from humble beginnings, born out in the country among many other puppies, and from the start carried the calm wisdom of an old soul. On Saturday, January 10, 2026, Baxter crossed the Rainbow Bridge, where his big brother King Arthur was waiting to welcome him home.
Though his legal name was Baxter, he was lovingly known as “Bax”—until Mom really needed his attention. He shared a special bond with his littermate and lifelong companion, Barney, preferring a laid-back life as the quiet observer while Barney handled most of the mischief. But when it came time to help chase squirrels, Baxter was always ready to join in.

Baxter wasn’t interested in toys or being a lap dog. He was happiest as a couch potato, soaking in the comfort of being near his people and his brother. At night, he chose his own bed in the kitchen, always positioning himself closest to the gate so he could keep Mom in sight while she sat in her recliner. Even though Mom worried about him being cold, Baxter felt perfectly content—as long as his head was covered, he believed he was fully tucked in.
Sensitive and gentle, Baxter was afraid of loud or unfamiliar noises—trash trucks, school buses, wind, rain, fireworks, thunder, and anything unexpected. But he trusted Mom completely and knew she would always make him feel safe. He also had a keen sense of order; if something didn’t belong—like a stray piece of paper in the yard—he would cautiously growl and sneak up on it to investigate.
Baxter had simple pleasures. Oscar Mayer thin-sliced deli turkey was his favorite, especially when it helped pills go down easily. He also loved Ritz crackers, carrots, green beans, and chicken—especially when Mom made chicken and dumplings and he knew a little shredded chicken would come his way. With his adorable duck-like waddle, Baxter made his way through life in his own sweet, unmistakable style.
Though he enjoyed time in the fenced yard, Baxter especially loved walks outside the fence on his leash, where new smells awaited him and adventure felt just a little bigger.
Baxter was deeply loved and will be forever missed by his Mommy, Daddy, and brother Barney. His gentle presence, loyal heart, and quiet companionship have left an imprint that will never fade.
With grateful hearts, the family extends sincere thanks to Peaceful Paws for their kindness and compassion, and to Debbie Lynch for being Baxter’s loving caretaker when needed.
Run free, sweet Bax.
You were cherished beyond words and will always live on in our hearts. 🐾💙

Baxter was such an adorable fella. He and Barney made the perfect “twins”. I continue to pray for both of you and Barney. I think a lot of family is taking care of and loving on Baxter for now. 💜🐾

Sweet Baxter, oh how i looked forward to our visits. You and your brother brought joy to my heart just by looking at your little faces. We had some good sleepovers together, belly rubs and snacks were your favorite part. You will be remembered and missed Big boy!
Loosing a pet is so hard, I’m sorry for your loss, he was a good boy.
Always enjoyed updates about Baxter & his escapades with his brother Barney. Loosing a fur baby is Loosing family. Just remember your precious memories.
I feel as if I knew Baxter personally, after your sharing his life with us, your friends. A lot of folks don’t understand this bond we share with our pets. Those people are missing a huge chunk of love in this life. Our pets love us more than we could possibly know as well. It is a love that is FELT, not spoken. You will miss him forever but you will have so many wonderful memories. Pam
We are all missing Baxter so much…especially his litter brother Barney. 😥
