In Loving Memory of Rhett & Scarlett Mastantuno
Rhett Mastantuno’s story is one of loss, resilience, and ultimately, profound love. He came into our lives as a rescue after losing his original owner—someone he had been deeply attached to. With nowhere else to go, Rhett found himself in rescue, confused and heartbroken. His grief showed through his separation anxiety; when he bonded with someone and they left his sight, he would howl, afraid of being left behind once again.
Rhett was adopted twice before, only to be returned. But the moment we saw him, we knew—he was the one. We brought him home, and for the next 14 beautiful years, Rhett was exactly where he belonged.
He loved his food, his routines, and most of all, his master—my husband. Rhett’s loyalty ran deep. Car rides were one of his greatest joys, especially knowing a special treat was waiting afterward. Simple moments like these brought him happiness and security, something he had long deserved.
Later, our family grew again when we welcomed a tiny toy poodle named Scarlett, born February 10, 2013. Their bond was instant and magical. When we went to the shelter to meet Scarlett, she walked straight to Rhett—it was as if she had chosen him. Scarlett, once skittish from her time in a puppy mill, found comfort and safety beside Rhett. She never had any interest in toys. She just enjoyed her two walks a day. Together, they became a true love story.
They shared 13 wonderful years, filled with walks, quiet companionship, and sleeping together on our bed. They healed each other, loved unconditionally, and brought joy and peace into our home.
Rhett and Scarlett are missed every single day. Their love, devotion, and gentle spirits left an everlasting mark on our hearts. Though they are no longer by our side, they live on in our memories—forever connected, forever loved.
Always in our hearts! Forever missed by your parents 🐾🤍 -Joseph & Lynne Mastantuno
