Sugar Ellis

In Loving Memory of Sugar Ellis
~2000 – November 1, 2025
Forever Our Sweet Feathered Friend 🕊️💚

For more than two decades, Sugar Ellis filled homes with laughter, love, and the familiar sound of his cheerful chatter. Believed to be around 25 years old, Sugar’s story began in Indiana, where he was first gifted to Grandma Lula Ellis by her nephew Tim Carl Antrobus. From that day on, he became a beloved member of the family — a tiny bird with a big personality and an even bigger heart.

After Grandma Lula’s passing in 2016, Sugar continued to be surrounded by love and care, spending years with Amy and Mike Potoski before settling in with Vern Noad and Jacque Antrobus, his devoted caretaker for the last four years of his long, happy life. Sugar was adored by all who knew him, including his “uncle” Andy (Mary) Ellis, and will forever remain part of the family’s cherished memories.

Sugar had a few simple pleasures that made him truly unique. He loved biting and tearing paper, whistling his own off-key tunes, and flirting with feet or shoes—always managing to make everyone around him laugh. When it was time to rest, he retreated to his room (his cage), where he would sleep peacefully after a long day of keeping his humans entertained.

His favorite foods were broccoli and spaghetti, and he’d happily chirp away while enjoying his meals. But perhaps the most special thing about Sugar was the way he carried Grandma Lula’s voice with him. The family will never forget how he could perfectly mimic her, calling out phrases like “C’mere Sugar,” “Whatcha doing, Sugar,” and “Doobie Doo.” It was as if a little piece of her lived on through him.

Sugar’s presence was a gift — a living reminder of love that spans generations. He brought joy, comfort, and connection to every home he graced. Though the house may now be a little quieter, his memory will forever fill the hearts of those who loved him.

Rest peacefully, sweet Sugar.
You’ve flown home to Grandma now — together again, forever loved, and forever remembered. 🕊️💛
