Mercy Mattox

In Loving Memory of Mercy Mattox
Gotcha Day: July 9, 2017 — July 9, 2026

Mercy Mattox, lovingly known as Babygirl and Merce, was a beautiful soul whose gentle heart and unconditional love made her so much more than a pet—she was family, a comfort, and a constant source of strength.

On July 9, 2017, Tommy and Dianna Mattox brought Mercy home from PetSmart in Harbison, never knowing just how profoundly she would change their lives. On that very first day, she was timid and unsure, hiding quietly in the bathroom sink until Mommy gently picked her up. From that moment forward, Mercy knew she was home. She spent the rest of her life showering her family with affection, greeting them with gentle head bonks and rubbing her chin against them every chance she got.

Mercy shared her home with her children, Finley and Aimes, along with her cat sibling Kanye and her canine brother Bear. She loved her family deeply and had a way of making everyone feel loved in return.

She found happiness in the simple things—lounging on her window perch while watching the birds outside, curling up on Daddy’s chest, or pretending she was absolutely starving anytime someone walked near the kitchen. If there was a piece of bacon nearby, Mercy somehow always knew, and she wasn’t about to let it go unnoticed.

When it was time to rest, her favorite place was snuggled in bed or peacefully sleeping on top of Mommy’s hip, as close as she could possibly be. She also loved her beloved catnip banana, which brought out her playful side and made even ordinary days a little more fun.

Of all the memories Mercy gave her family, perhaps the greatest was simply the love she shared. She was there through life’s hardest moments, offering quiet comfort without ever saying a word. Her presence brought peace, her affection brought healing, and her unwavering companionship reminded her family that pets are never “just animals.” They become part of our hearts, our stories, and our lives forever.

Though saying goodbye on the anniversary of the day she came home makes the loss even more bittersweet, there is comfort in knowing that every one of those nine years was filled with love.

Run free, sweet Babygirl. May there be sunny windows to watch from, endless bacon to enjoy, cozy blankets to curl up on, and all the love your heart can hold. Thank you for every head bonk, every cuddle, and every moment you shared with your family. You will always be loved, forever missed, and never forgotten. 🐾🤍🐱
