Dixie Tate, lovingly known as Dixie Mamas, Daddy’s Baby, and Old Lady, was a faithful companion whose sweet spirit and loving heart made her an irreplaceable part of her family. Born in Carteret County, North Carolina, Dixie found her forever home on September 16, 2013, after choosing her mom in the most unforgettable way—by laying at Megan’s feet at the pound. In that moment, everyone knew she belonged, and they took her home that very day.
Dixie was deeply loved by her parents, Megan and Dustin Tate, and shared her life with Remington, Kimber, Calhoun, Rip, Browning, Eep, Tater, and Ruger. She had a playful sense of humor, often making the cats her favorite “toys,” and was happiest spending her days watching television, taking long naps, and simply being with her family.
When it was time to rest, Dixie wasn’t picky—she could fall asleep anywhere she found a comfortable spot. And when steak was on the menu, she was always ready for a bite of her favorite treat.
The memory of the day Dixie chose her family will forever be one of the most treasured. It was the beginning of years filled with unconditional love, companionship, and countless moments that made her such a special part of their lives.
Though Dixie is deeply missed, the love she gave and the memories she created will remain in the hearts of those who loved her forever.
