Kya Castillo-Blanco

In Loving Memory of Kya Castillo-Blanco

Forever Loved, Forever Remembered

Kya Castillo-Blanco was a beautiful little veiled chameleon who may have been tiny, but she left a lasting impression on the hearts of those who loved her. Brought home as a young hatchling in August, Kya quickly became a special part of her family’s life, inspiring them to learn everything they could to give her a happy, comfortable home.

From making sure she had the proper UVB lighting to creating a larger enclosure filled with climbing sticks, a sandbox, and plants, Kya’s family worked hard to make her little world just right. And although chameleons are known for being shy and independent, Kya had a personality all her own.

One of the most unforgettable memories happened while setting up her new adult enclosure. As her family was placing a wandering Jew plant in the corner, the plant suddenly tipped over. For one frightening moment, they thought Kya had fallen with it. But almost as if she understood their worry, Kya appeared from behind the pot, holding tightly to a pole, letting everyone see that she was perfectly fine. Her mom liked to believe Kya had come out just to ease their fears.

Kya certainly knew what she liked! She wasn’t particularly interested in exploring outside her enclosure, but she absolutely loved her hornworms. In fact, she once climbed right onto an arm because her favorite treats weren’t being handed out quickly enough! She also loved nibbling on her wandering Jew plant so much that it couldn’t grow fast enough to keep up with her appetite.

Though Kya was small and sometimes preferred her own space, she brought so much joy through her curious nature, funny little habits, and the quiet trust she developed with her family.

Kya’s time with her family was precious, and the memories she created will always be treasured. She was more than a little chameleon in an enclosure. She was a beloved companion who taught her family that even the smallest creatures can leave the biggest footprints on our hearts.

Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever their sweet little Kya. 🦎🤍
