Nickie Gruebel

CAMDEN-Nickie was born on January 16, 2008 and passed June 14,2023. Nickie came to our home April 24, 2008. He is a direct grandson to the Havanese that is on the stamp of Cuba. Nickie‘s introduction to his younger yet larger German Shepherd, brother JerryLee, was by JerryLee picking up Nickie‘s crate in his mouth and walking him around our hotel room, ha,ha,ha. Rich and I thought it was hysterical. Nickie didn’t seem to share our point of view. He was a great older brother to JerryLee, Hans, Kaylee, and Maddee. He was entered in the AKC shows. After he won his first best of show I decided I wanted him home more as a pet, then on the road as a show dog. His handler was not very happy with me as he just started to win best in show blue ribbons, but I missed him.

Nickie became my shadow. He knew when I was in a lot of pain and at night he would lay in bed, curled up into my low back to try and help me feel better. No one had to teach him how to be a helper to me he did it automatically.

We had to make the decision to help him cross rainbow bridge. It was the only fair thing to do as he was going blind couldn’t find his way out from under chairs, he couldn’t remember where he was etc.. He had been too faithful to put him through that. He is survived by his dad, Rich, & Gwen his mom you will surely be missed Nickie, my big boy.
