In Loving Memory of Dixie Harling
December 11, 2011 — March 25, 2026
Dixie Harling — lovingly known as Dixie Do, Hoover, and Purple — was a spirited, loving girl who brought laughter, personality, and endless love to her family throughout her beautiful life.
Born in Hondo, Texas, and raised mostly in San Antonio, Dixie later made her way to South Carolina in March of 2024, where she continued to fill every space she entered with joy. She was deeply loved by her devoted parents, Bill and Sherie Harling, her biological sister Brandie, and a large, loving family — Shawnie, Bryan, Brooke, Chris, Christie, Ernesto, Daemon, Kaleb, Suzie, Skye, Christian, Shyanne, Jacob, and Olivia — all of whom she left a lasting imprint on.

Dixie’s story began with love from the very start. After Shawnie brought home Brandie, it didn’t take long for Dixie to find her way into the family — just four days later, Ernesto surprised everyone by bringing her home. From that moment on, she was exactly where she was meant to be.
Dixie was full of personality and knew exactly how to make her wishes known. She wasn’t much for toys, but if she wanted something, you’d know it — barking and spinning in circles until she got your attention. Christie taught her to bark for treats, and from then on, she perfected the art. With Brooke especially, she could turn into a whirlwind of barking and spinning excitement that was impossible not to laugh at.
Affectionately nicknamed “Hoover,” Dixie had quite the reputation as a “floor cleaner,” because there truly wasn’t anything she wouldn’t eat. She especially loved steak, nuts, and ice cream — and she had a way of staring straight into your soul until you gave in and shared. If food was nearby, Dixie knew — even going as far as unzipping Suzie’s backpack if she caught a scent.
When it came to comfort, Dixie loved her cozy bed and homemade blanket, but her true favorite place to sleep was right beside her people. Whether she was tucked under the covers on a cold night or curled up on the pillows, resting her head close to yours, she always wanted to be as close as possible.
Dixie also loved being on the go. She and her sister Brandie were wonderful travel companions, always ready for the next adventure. Whether riding along or being pushed in her doggy stroller, she was happiest just being with her family.
Dixie wasn’t just a pet — she was a personality, a source of laughter, and a deeply loving companion. Her silly quirks, her determination, and her endless love made her truly unforgettable.
Though she is no longer by their side, the joy she brought and the memories she created will live on forever in the hearts of all who loved her.
Run free, sweet Dixie Do. You were one of a kind, and you will be deeply missed. 🐾🤍
