In Loving Memory of Sebastian Ellis

Gotcha Day: May 9, 2009
Sebastian Ellis, lovingly known as “My Little Squirrel” and affectionately called “Bastian” by his Aunt BJ, was a gentle, handsome boy whose quiet love and unforgettable presence blessed his family for more than seventeen wonderful years.
Born on April 1, 2009, and brought home just over a month later from the Elgin community in Lancaster, South Carolina, Sebastian’s story began in the sweetest way. While visiting Miss Hilda’s litter of kittens, one tiny gray kitten stood out because he was much louder than all the others. The moment he was picked up, he nestled into his mama’s arms and instantly became quiet. As they walked away, Scarlett’s sister reminded her to put the kitten back, but Miss Hilda simply smiled and said she could keep him or he would end up at the shelter. That little kitten, who was only crying because of ear mites that were quickly treated, found the loving home he was always meant to have.

Sebastian was deeply loved by his parents, Mo and Scarlett, his human mom Glenda Ellis, and was reunited at the Rainbow Bridge with his beloved siblings Sasha, Katie, and Bobby, who preceded him in passing.
He found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Whether batting around his favorite jingle balls, chasing the occasional adventurous lizard that wandered inside, relaxing in the very top tower of his cat condo, or curling up beside his mama for a nap, Sebastian knew how to make every day peaceful. When bedtime came, he was happiest sleeping beside his mama or perched comfortably on top of the washing machine, keeping watch over his home.
Sebastian also had quite the sweet tooth. He was famous for sneaking sips of Mama’s milk from her cereal bowl, happily accepting Temptations treats, and never saying no to a little taste of ice cream whenever the opportunity arose.
One of Sebastian’s most memorable traits was his incredible ability to surprise visitors. He loved sitting high in his cat tower, hidden so well that only his striking green eyes peeked over the edge. Many guests were startled when those bright eyes suddenly appeared watching them from above.
His mama lovingly called him “My Little Squirrel,” a nickname that fit him perfectly. Around six months old, Sebastian was long, low to the ground, and about the size of a squirrel, complete with a beautiful, bushy tail. As he darted through the house playing with his siblings, he truly looked like one. It became one of the many little things that made him unforgettable.
Perhaps the most breathtaking thing about Sebastian was the way his soft gray fur caught the light. Whenever he sat in a sunbeam, it created what looked like a glowing halo around him, just like the angels seen in paintings. It was a sight his Aunt BJ especially adored, often admiring both that heavenly glow and his beautiful green eyes. Looking back now, it’s hard not to believe that halo had been with him all along.
Sebastian was never just a pet. He was a source of comfort, laughter, companionship, and unconditional love. Through every season of life, he remained a faithful friend whose gentle spirit touched everyone fortunate enough to know him. Though his favorite places now sit empty, the love he gave continues to fill every corner of the hearts he leaves behind.
Run free, sweet Bastian. May there always be warm sunbeams to rest in, endless cat towers to climb, jingle balls to chase, lizards that are just fast enough to keep life exciting, and all the milk, ice cream, and treats your heart desires. Thank you for every cuddle, every surprise from the top of the cat tree, and every moment of unconditional love. You will forever be our little squirrel, forever loved, forever missed, and forever shining your beautiful light. πΎπ€π±
