Rex VanDyke, lovingly known as Mr. Handsome, was a gentle and affectionate boy who shared more than 18 wonderful years with his family. Rex found his forever home in August 2008 after being adopted from IndyHumane in Indianapolis, Indiana, and became a deeply loved companion to his parents, Jessica VanDyke and Cederick Benson.

Rex shared his life with Noah VanDyke, Bella, Sweet Pea, Smoochie, and RayRay. He loved playing with his fur siblings, although his version of playing often involved simply flopping over while everyone else did the work. He enjoyed catnip mice, anything with strings, and chasing the little light from his laser toy.

When it was time to rest, Rex loved curling up with Smoochie in their chair or getting comfortable in the pineapple bed. He also loved his cat treats, especially when Cederick would secretly sneak him a few while the others weren’t looking.

Each member of Rex’s family carries special memories of him. Noah will always remember pulling Rex around the house on his water board. Cederick treasured watching Rex interact with his brother Sammy. And for Jessica, it will be Rex’s cuddles that are missed so very much.

For more than 18 years, Mr. Handsome filled his family’s home with companionship, laughter, cuddles, and a quiet love that became part of everyday life. His favorite chair may feel emptier now, but the memories he leaves behind will remain forever.
